706 System v. 2006.00
or later to v.
2006.02 Patch (2/23/07)
File: 706-200602.exe (242K) V. 2006.02
corrects a bug in filling Part 4, line 5. In some
cases, the previous versions of the program can overwrite the total amount of
gifts to unascertainable beneficiaries. This occurs when there is a long list
of ascertainable beneficiaries. Previous returns were unaffected if there was
no entry amount for gifts to unascertainable beneficiaries or there were fewer
than eleven ascertainable beneficiaries.
V. 2006.01 Changes: 1)
Schedule R, Part 1, line 1 now prints max GST
exemption of 2,000,000. This has no effect on calculations. 2)
Schedules M and O no longer indicate the QTIP
treatment of line items. The continuation sheets themselves are ordered by QTIP
treatment so this was an unnecessary detail. 3)
Page 3, Part
4, item 12e receives a "no" checkmark if an ID number is not entered on the
"General Information Screen." Previously it was marked with a "yes" checkmark.
4) Several alignment problems
corrected on schedule M.
706 System v. 2005.00 or
later to v.
2005.04 Patch (7/21/06)
Note: To deduct state taxes from the Beneficiary's
interest on page 2, enter the state tax in the "Out-of-State Tax" box under
"State Tax Information" under "Forms and Worksheets." Be sure to check the
recapitulation in each bequest screen to verify the state tax deduction.
File: 706-200504.exe (370K)
Changes:
V. 2005.04 made
the following changes: 1) In Part 4, line 8,
the checkmarks for boxes a and b were appearing outside their boxes. This
has been corrected. 2) In Part 4, when line 5 contained more than 11
items, it was overwriting the bottom of the form. A continuation page is now
used when necessary. V. 2005.03 made
the following changes: 1) There was an error
in the NY ET-706 form which has been corrected. It involved cases with in-state
bequests by non-residents or out-of-state bequests by residents. Specifically,
schedules 1 & 2 had the correct numbers, but they were not in their proper
places on the form. Also, Schedule 3 was not printing whenever schedules 1 or 2
were printed. 2) The exclusion for a non-citizen spouse was raised to
$117,000 for 2005 per form instructions. 3) There was a problem caused by
accessing the Gift Tax Worksheet from the Tax Computation worksheet.
Gift tax worksheet entries are now made only on that window. 4) On Form
706, page 1, Part 2, line 7 was incorrectly calculated if there were pre-1977
gifts among the prior gifts. This has been corrected. 5) Many unused
fields on the Tax Computation Worksheet have been eliminated, simplifying data
entry. 6) The NY ET-706 uses the 2005 form for all years as per its
instructions.
V. 2005.02 updates the Valrates table. It also corrects a possible error
in printing US 706 line 3a and 3b which occurs in cases where the taxable gift
was made to a trust which bears its share of taxes and the calculation screen
was never saved and the state death tax amount was not entered on calculation
screen. Note that the federal estate tax was still calculated correctly
even under this fact pattern.
V. 2005.01 corrects a
problem discovered in v. 2005.00. If you have a case that includes bequests to
trusts which bear their proportionate share of taxes and for which taxes are
apportioned against the taxable portion of the transfer on an average basis
(should only occur in Specific Asset and Legacy dispositions), the
program could have shown an incorrect amount of taxes being apportioned to that
trust. That is, if you answered "A" for the "Pays Fed Tax" question for a
bequest; the overall tax output would be correct, but the net amount to
beneficiaries on page 2 would be incorrect.
706 System v. 2002.00 to v. 2002.10 Patch (11/14/02)
File: 706-200210.exe (244K)
Changes: modifies
the calculation of annuity and unitrust factors to match the IRS published
factors by using the same number of decimal places and interpolation when
necessary. Alternate date valuation factors are used when alternate valuation
is selected.
709 System v. 2009.00
to v. 2009.01 Patch (2/25/09)
File: 709-200901.exe (903K)
V. 2009.01 changes:
1) A problem with printing page 1 of the form was corrected. This
did not change calcs. 2) A problem with saving data was also
corrected.
709 System v. 2008.00
to v. 2008.01 Patch (2/19/08)
File: 709-200801.exe (689K)
V. 2008.01 change:

the return with the preparer.
709 System v. 2007.00
or later to v. 2007.02 Patch (3/29/07)
File: 709-200702.exe (413K)
V. 2007.2 changes:
1) There was not enough room on the following sections to list all of the gifts
that could have been made: Page three, Part four, Line four - marital gifts;
Page three, Part four, Line seven - Gifts to Charities; Page three, Part four,
Line twelve - QTIP gifts not receiving QTIP treatment; Page four, Part two -
Section 2652 QTIP treatment. The report now includes an Attachment ("Attachment
A") that includes a list of all the gifts. 2) A feature was added to
automatically increase the annual exclusion on imported items if the previous
exclusion was the standard exclusion for the source year. This means that when
you import a 2005 gift to 2006, the exclusion used is automatically increased to
the new amount. 3) A problem with the right margin on continuation reports
was corrected. 4) A minor user interface issue in the list of gift years
was corrected. Previously, the highlighting could be confusing.
V. 2007.01 changes:
1) The previous version
was misreporting the number of donees when gifts were entered for prior years.
This did not affect the calculations, but only the reported number of donees.
2) Overrides added to the Edit Menu so that the number of donees can be easily
overridden.
709 System v. 2004.00
or later to v. 2004.05 Patch (8/31/04)
File: 709patch200405.exe (755K)
V. 2004.05 changes:
1) Program now exempts gift from any automatic allocation if Sec. 2632(b)
election is checked. Previously, a Sec. 2632(b) election only
checked column. Program also adds a warning on Sec. 2632(b) election to be
sure to attach necessary statement. 2) GST Non-exempt beneficiary type
added. 3) The ability to specify a relationship for any beneficiary was
added.
V. 2004.04 changes:
1) Specific Exemption for gifts made after September 8, 1976 and before
January 1, 1977 calculation was modified in cases where more than one period
included this exemption or if gift periods were entered after the one that
contained this exemption. 2) A new critical warnings feature has been
added to flag certain warnings as critical. 3) Death of spouse is now taken into
consideration for determination of whether one was married during the entire
calendar year. 4) The GST Exemption Reconciliation now limits certain
calculation results to prevent an error condition that can occur if the maximum
allowable GST exemption is exceeded by the total of all of the manually
allocated GST exemptions.
V. 2004.03 changes: 1)
$ signs have been removed from the form.
2) An Override option available at the time of printing allows the number of
computed donees to be overridden.
3)
A change was made in the Taxable Gift
Reconciliation
to subtract annual exclusions from line 7
for all
charitable gifts other than CRUTS and CRATS; previously, no annual exclusions
were subtracted on line 7.
V. 2004.02 changes:
1) Donees are now
being counted instead of showing 0 donees. 2) Charitable deduction now being
totaled for all gifts to charity. Previously, any charitable gifts that were
not trusts were not included. 3) Taxes cannot be shown as negative on the
screen. 4) Now prints relationship of donee to donor, if known. 5) Direct
Skips, page 4, parts one and three: the ordering of the gifts has been
corrected. 6) Prints the valuation discount description that is entered on the
Gift window. 7) Corrected problem where description for user defined
beneficiaries sometimes showed "Rate Used: 0%." 8) Taxable Gifts are now sorted
as per the instructions instead of in chronological order: Marital gifts, gifts
split with spouse, charitable gifts, gifts to others. 9) Corrected problem with
numbers being printed in split gift column when gift was not split (math was
correct and final column was correct).
V. 2004.01 Changes: 1) Corrected problem where
first page of 709 sometimes had the Taxpayer's ID number printed over top of its
first line; 2) Sec. 2632(c) Elect Out checkbox for Generation Skipping was not
working and has been made functional, 3) A button was added to the print window
to indicate any warnings, and 4) Word-wrapping problem with long gift
descriptions was resolved.

or later to v. 2006.04 Patch
(8/21/06)
File: kea200604.exe (1475K) V. 2006.04 included the
following changes: 1. Added improved connectivity with PFP Notebook.
Kugler Estate Analyzer reports can now be imported by PFP Notebook. 2.
Added the ability to e-mail data files: select "E-mail Data File" from the
file menu to e-mail the currently loaded file. 3. Corrects a cosmetic bug
in the Both Spouses Die Within One Year Report: Portfolio and Insurance
Death Benefits--if the actual death years for both clients are the same (say
2010), the DB going to the surviving spouse used to show up twice (only on this
report). 4. The Marital Outright Bequest (for Previous Planning) can no
longer be less than $0. 5. The maximum amount of the credit shelter trust
was including the insurance death benefit in some cases. This has been
corrected. 6. The CRUT exhaustion test calculations have been updated.
V. 2006.03 included the
following changes: 1. Liabilities in single person case were not showing
up on the flowchart. 2. Joint liabilities were being affected by the input
"Satisfy Debt at First Death." 3. When "Income to Spouse" was placed
first, the second-to-die's estate value was being reported incorrectly. 4.
Several cosmetic changes were also made.
V. 2006.02 included the
following changes: 1. The annual exclusion has been updated for 2006.
2. The children label on the flowcharts has been changed to heirs.
3. On the "Both Die Within One Year" Report, the amount going to the surviving
spouse at the first spouse's death was sometimes misreported on that one page.
This was corrected. For later flowcharts, the displayed value was correct.
4. CRAT: The joint life calculation has been corrected. In the
previous version, it generated an error message. 5. The AFRs have been
updated. 6. When the settlement costs used up assets that were also
needed to fund a credit shelter trust, the program was using qualified plans to
fund the credit shelter trust. This was corrected.
V. 2006.01 included the
following changes: 1. At time of second death, the previous version wasn't
allowing community property assets to be used for expenses. 2. The
flowcharts now adjust their spacing to prevent the page numbering from being
overwritten. This used to occur when many techniques were being illustrated.
3. The technique "Income To Spouse" was not being saved to the data files
properly. 4. The age listed on the Rolling GRAT technique was
displaying the "nearest age." The program now shows the client's actual
age.

File: rdp902.exe (1630K)
Version 9.02 changes: It is recommended that all v. 9.00 and v.
9.01 users download this Patch to upgrade to v. 9.02.
1) The RMD calculation for inherited Roth IRA cases where the owner dies
before his age 70½ year with a spouse as the beneficiary who performs a rollover
in a year later than the owner's year of death and before the owner's age 70½
year has been adjusted to remove unneeded distributions. This the rule
which delays RMDs until the later of the end of the calendar year following the
year in the which the owner died or the end of the calendar year in which the
owner would have attained age 70½.
2) The AFRs have been locked-in through February 2008.
Version 9.01 changes:
1) The RMD calculation based on the life expectancy of the spouse's designated
beneficiary for the special case where both the Owner and Spouse die before the
RBD and the Spouse has a designated beneficiary has been refined.
This is the case where the Spouse is treated as the Owner if both die young as
noted in §401(a)(9)(B)(iv)(II) and Reg. §1.401(a)(9)-3, A-5, A-6,
§1.401(a)(9)-4, A-4(b). New inputs are shown on the Beneficiary
Information when the fact pattern indicates possible application of this special
calculation: Is Spouse a 100% Beneficiary? and Does the Spouse Name a
Beneficiary?.
2) There were some cases where some input information on the Beneficiary
Information screen was not being saved with regard to the special rule in 1)
above. This has been corrected.
3) Several cosmetic changes were made.

cases in multiple beneficiary cases (i.e., cases when Beneficiary is the Spouse,
Spousal Rollover is Yes and Multiple Benef is Yes and also cases where
Beneficiary is Child and Multiple Benef is Yes). This means that it is
possible in these cases to enter a 0% entry for some beneficiaries in
Alternatives 2 to 4.
8) Birth Dates for the beneficiaries may now also be entered on the Client
Information screen with data entry conformed with the information shown on the
main input screen.
9) The report shown at the bottom of the main input screen may be changed
by right-clicking on the report area. This feature had been disabled in v.
2007.02.
10) Some reports with large numbers of beneficiaries were cutting off.
This has been corrected.
11) Long descriptions entered for alternatives were overflowing the
flowcharts in some reports. In such cases, the descriptions are being
shortened by the program to fit into the flowcharts.
12) A number of other cosmetic changes were made.
Version 2007.02
changes:
1) The Income Tax on Roth IRA was being based on the entire
balance instead of on growth (earnings). This has been corrected and new
inputs have been added to the Roth IRA screen to help determine when growth is
taxed: Year Roth IRA was Established and when relevant (i.e., when
the Year Roth IRA was Established is within five years of the Current Year),
Earnings included in Roth IRA.
2) Saving and Loading Data Files problems involving Contributions to Roth IRA
and some multiple beneficiary cases have been corrected.
3) A RMD calculation based on the life expectancy of the spouse's designated
beneficiary for the special case where both the Owner and Spouse die before the
RBD and the Spouse has a designated beneficiary has been added to the program.
This is the case where the Spouse is treated as the Owner if both die young as
noted in §401(a)(9)(B)(iv)(II) and Reg. §1.401(a)(9)-3, A-5, A-6,
§1.401(a)(9)-4, A-4(b).
4) Problems when the Number of Yrs input was set to 0 or 1 have been
corrected.
5) The ability to Create Report Groups on the Print Window now saves all the
selected reports.
6) On the Tax Rates screen, it is now possible to uncheck the custom buttons
after custom rates have been entered.
7) Several other minor changes were made.
8) This patch file also updates the State Death Tax Manager to v. 1.50 if not
already installed.
Version 2007.01
changes:
1) When the input is checked for Spread Out Payment of Conversion
Tax When Possible on the Roth IRA Conversions screens, the program now spreads
out the income taxable for Roth IRA conversions in 2010 to 2011 and 2012.
2) A Data File Encryption feature has been added to the File Menu.
Previously, data files were encrypted, but it was not possible to turn off that
feature.
3) The Location of Data Files choice on the File Menu was changed from Data File
Location.
4)
Previously, the Quick Roth IRA Conversion feature incorrectly assumed there were
enough Other Assets to pay the conversion taxes when the Other Assets beginning
balance was $0 and taxes were to be paid from the Other Assets.
5) Numerous other changes including cosmetic and report changes were made.
